The Miramar Airshow is the largest airshow in the world and the performing aircraft did range from civilian aerial aerobatics to the Marine Air Ground Task Force demonstration and the famous Blue Angels. The 2002 show theme was 'A Salute to the Flying Leathernecks' in honor of the Marine aviators.
Where? NAS Miramar, USA When? 19-20/10/2002
Since 1994 Miramar is an Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS), the Marine Corps' premier air station and home to the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing. But nonetheless the name is still associated with 'Fightertown U.S.A.' coming from the days when the base still was a Naval Air Station (NAS Miramar). Due to that change the Navy F-14s have nowadays unfortunately disappeard and have mainly been replaced by Marines F/A-18s.

The show impressed me with a huge static display. They showed dozens of different airplanes:
Small and large civilians and military airpanes, historic and recent aircraft and a lot of helicopters. You could spot a Stearman, C-46, B-17, T-6, Corsair, Bearcat, F-5 Tigers (Top Gun, Team Stealth,...), Phantoms. F-15Es, F-16s, C-5, B-1B and every kind of Marine or Navy Aircraft. Just to name some of them...
For the photographer it was a bit difficult to get good shots of as everybody could get really close to the aircraft and you had to be there really early or to stay a bit longer.

To take photos of the flight display the grandstand seating has been a good choise because you have been sitting a bit higher which made the photography a bit easier. Nonetheless that did not help against the fact that the runway was quite far away and I had the sun against me all the time. That is the reason why the photo quality is not always that satisfying, but I hope that you are enjoying my photos in the 5 categories!
