Page 1 of 4 Where? Eggebek - Germany When? 24/08/2003
90 years of german naval aviation and 45 years Marinefliegergeschwader (MFG) 2 ...these have been the two anniversaries and main themes for the Eggebek Airday, the only open doors day of the German Air Force (GAF)/ Navy this year. The organizers did an excellent job in inviting a good bunch of foreign aircraft for the show which resulted in a lot of nice visitors for the static and flight display and have been rewarded by about 80.000 visitors for their open doors day.
The flight display has also been very good for an 'Open Doors Day' in Germany. As Eggebk is a Navy base, there have been all the Navy aircraft in the air: the Westland Sea King, the Sea Lynx, Dornier Do 228, Breguet Atlantic and their Tornados. The Air Force showed their C-160 Transall and the F-4F Phantom in flight. The most awaited item in the flight display, the MiG-29, had to stay on the ground for reasons that I do not want to mention here. It really is a shame that this wonderful plane has not been presented to the public on the last possible occasion before they are going to Poland…
