La Ferté-Alais Airshow
Every year at the pentecost week-end the Cerny airfield near La Ferté-Alais, which is located around 90km south of Paris, is the big meeting point for the French and European Warbird and Oldtimer-scene. This year the weather was unfortunately not the very best with continuous rain on Saturday morning.
Where? Cerny/La Ferté-Alais - France
When? 14-15/05/2005
This resulted in a cancellation of the flight displays until midday and sludge all over the place, under which a lot of the shoes and trouser of the persistent visitors had to suffer. Because even despite miserable weather conditions a lot of people attend the show and their endurance was rewarded with a nice flight display in the afternoon after the 'flooding' has stopped.
The display had to be shortened of course, nevertheless after some WW I the highlights in form of the Spitfire Mk. XIX and the German Bf 109 G-4 from Albstadt were presented in the air. The third highlight, the Hawk 75, unfortunately had to stay in England due to the bad weather. Further demonstartions were flown by the B-17, Ju-52 or the Dassault Flamant.
Especially the view of the 109 together with the Ju-52 was something a lot of enthusiats had long to wait for. After nearly 4 hours of non-stop flight demonstartions the day was concluded with a jet display by a French AF Mirage 2000 and the Patrouille Breitling with their L-39s.
All things considered the show was well worth the trip to France the show was really entertaining, with a nice commentary throughout the show and a beautiful backdrop for the flight demonstrations. Regarding the very special french atmosphere I will try to pay this show another visit next, with hopefully better weather. Which was good on Sunday, btw, and the full flight display was held that day!
