Airpower05

Article Index

Every second year the Airpower show is an highly attend event not only in the airshow calendar of the enthusiats but also amongst everyone in Austria how is keen on attending a nice and eventfull day out.
The whole show is sponsored by Red Bull, which reflects of course in the offered drinks and throughout the commentray the whole day long, but the entrance is free as well and you get 10h of non-stop flying activities.

DrakenWhere? Zeltweg - Austria
When? 24-25/06/2005

TowerCrowdOf course I could not miss the show that year as well. The main reason to attend was the fact, that it was the last public appearance of the Saab Draken, which will be withdrawn from service at the end of 2005.

Traditionally the first act of the Airpower05 was a small helicopter parade and afterwards in the morning mostly light aircraft and warbirds were presented.
PilotFollowing this fly-by there was action in the air throughout the day. Of course you could get annoyed by several display teams, if you already knew their routines. One big personal highlight for me among them were the 'Asas de Portugal' with their two Alpha Jets and tight and perfect formation flying!
The jet displays were represented by the usual F-16, Hornet and Eurofighter displays, but dominated by the Hungarian MiG-29, which showed two Cobra maneuvers during its display.
