Iniochos Exercise 2018

«INIOHOS» exercise was first created in the 80’s and was gradually upgraded and established as an annual Hellenic Air Force Small scale Air Warfare exercise. Recently the scope of the exercise has been extensively increased and does also include ground and naval forces. The 2018 edition saw an impressive number of 76 fighter aircraft deployed to Andravida airbase. During 9 operational days more than 1000 operational sorties were flown during day and night!

Alpine Base Meiringen offers a gorgeous setting The airfield is nestled in a small valley in central Switzerland in the canton of Bern. Surrounded by mountains that partly rise up vertically for several hundred meters it is challenging flying terrain, but provides plenty of photo opportunities. Meiringen is the home of the Swiss Air Force's Fliegerstaffel 11 "Tigers", one of Switzerland three F/A-18 Hornet Squadrons, and is also home to the militia Squadron 8 "Destructors" ("Vandalos"), flying the F-5E Tiger II.

A-7 Corsair II Retirement

The last Air Force to operate this subsonic light attack aircraft has been the Hellenic Air Force (HAF), and it put an official end to A-7 Corsair II operations with a ceremony on October 17th, 2014.

Meiringen - WK 2014

The Swiss Air Force still operates two jet types in their fleet, the F-18 Hornet and the F-5E Tiger. During the annual WK (Wiederholungskurs - repetition course) Squadrons operating these aircraft relocate to a certain airbase in order to train their skills in a "€šwartime-like Environment"€˜. In May of each year it is usually time for the 11. and 18. Squadron to hold this exercise at the alpine airbase Meiringen.

WTD61 F-4F Phlyout

After the show of Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG71) at Wittmund to honour the end of the F-4F Phantom II service for the Luftwaffe at the end of June 2013, the two remaining Phantoms of WTD61 soldiered on for one more month. End of July was the offical end for all German Phantoms due to legal reasons, and the German Flight Test Center used the remaining time to fly their F-4s until the very end.

Nice spring weather and the Greek hospitality made the trip very worthwhile and resulted in some nice images.

Lechfeld special coloured Jets

To lessen the noise disturbance in the neighbouring communities, the Luftwaffe conducts night flying training and operations only in the winter season when the dawn already starts at around 5pm. With around 10 jets flying in the afternoon and during the night period again this was quite a busy day with plenty of photo opportunities.

Holloman 55.555FH

With the landing of a freshly special painted Tornado, the German Air Force Flying Training Center completed 55,555 Tornado flight hours at Holloman AFB, NM, October 13th, 2009, and a reception commemorating the accomplishment shortly followed.
German Air Force members shared the momentous occasion with the 49th Fighter Wing by inviting the wing commander to accompany the GAF FTC commander in the flight.

Tornado - 40th Anniversary

JG74 F-4F Phlyout

"The Farewell to a Legend", with these words the wing commander of Jagdgeschwader 74, Andreas Pfeiffer, opened its speech due to the decommissioning of the, meanwhile legendary, F-4F Phantom II. Nearly 34 years ago, on September, 26th, 1974, the first aircraft arrived at Neuburg from Wittmund, which will also be the airfield where the last 10 Phantoms will leave to as soon as possible. During all these year JG-74 flew more than 240.000hrs on the Phantom, among these more than 7200 on the aircraft 37+48. All these and even more impressive numbers were mentioned at the roll call.

HAF - Corsairs and Buckeyes

Very secretive and mostly inaccessible the HAF (Hellenic Air Force / ΠΟΛΕΜΙΚΗ ΑΕΡΟΠΟΡΙΑ) possesses a very interesting and mixed fleet, including some of the most appealing aircraft around Europe – either way because of the uniqueness of the type or just because of their striking camouflage. Once the permission was given I have had the possibility to visit the airbases in Araxos and Kalamata on the Peloponnese peninsula, where I met a whole nice bunch of people who tried to organize nearly everything to get the desired photographs.

ELITE 2005

Electronic Live Warfare Training Exercise
Ten years after ist first edition in 1995 ELITE (Electronic Warfare Live Training Exercise) is still going strong. Organized by the German Luftwaffe this years exercise involved participants from 19 countries that are mainly based in southern Germany around the Heuberg training range south of Stuttgart. The main base for the involved aircraft is Lagerlechfeld, home of the German ECR Tornados, which hosted this year as well Greek and Turkish F-16s, Italian ECR Tornados and, for the very last time, Swedish Sk37E Viggens and a Saab 340 ERIEYE AEW aircraft.
