Alpine Base Meiringen offers a gorgeous setting The airfield is nestled in a small valley in central Switzerland in the canton of Bern. Surrounded by mountains that partly rise up vertically for several hundred meters it is challenging flying terrain, but provides plenty of photo opportunities. Meiringen is the home of the Swiss Air Force's Fliegerstaffel 11 "Tigers", one of Switzerland three F/A-18 Hornet Squadrons, and is also home to the militia Squadron 8 "Destructors" ("Vandalos"), flying the F-5E Tiger II.

G7 Summit Germany 2015 Elmau

The G7 summit brings together the leaders of the seven G7 member states on a regular basis. Politics aside, the event is also always a great gathering of military and presidential aircraft flying in politicians from all over the world. For the G7 summit at Schloss Elmau in the Bavarian Alps, Munich airport (MUC) was the main hub to receive loads of interesting aircraft.

Hokkaido, Japan's Northern island, is a special experience and cannot really be compared with the rest of Japan. Vast landscapes and scenic mountain ranges prevail instead of megacities and densly populated areas. And in the winter months this experience is even more exciting! Birds of all species populate the air, and Chitose's International Airport is busy with winter operations, assuring the safe handling of civil and military air traffic alike.

A-7 Corsair II Retirement Ceremony, HAF AFB Araxos

With the retirement of the LTV A-7 Corsair II the sky has lost once again another charismatic jetfighter from the 1960s/70s era. The last Air Force to operate this subsonic light attack aircraft has been the Hellenic Air Force (HAF), and it put an official end to A-7 Corsair II operations with a ceremony on October 17th, 2014.

Night flying is an essential part in the training of every jet pilot, and the ground crews as well. To lessen the noise disturbance in the neighbouring communities, the Luftwaffe conducts night flying training and operations only in the winter season when the dawn already starts at around 5pm. With around 10 jets flying in the afternoon and during the night period again this was quite a busy day with plenty of photo opportunities.

Swiss Air Force WK at Meiringen - Fliegerstaffel 11 and 19

The Swiss Air Force still operates two jet types in their fleet, the F-18 Hornet and the F-5E Tiger. During the annual WK (Wiederholungskurs - repetition course) Squadrons operating these aircraft relocate to a certain airbase in order to train their skills in a "€šwartime-like Environment"€˜. In May of each year it is usually time for the 11. and 18. Squadron to hold this exercise at the alpine airbase Meiringen.

CJPRSC 2010 - CSAR course

The Combined Joint Personnel Recovery Standardisation Course (CJPRSC) 2010 took place at the Lechfeld AB with a strong participation by the Italian, French and German Armed Forces. This course aims to improve to cooperation and standardization in multi-national CSAR missions.

WTD61 Phantom Pharewell

After the show of Jagdgeschwader 71 (JG71) at Wittmund to honour the end of the F-4F Phantom II service for the Luftwaffe at the end of June 2013, the two remaining Phantoms of WTD61 soldiered on for one more month. End of July was the offical end for all German Phantoms due to legal reasons, and the German Flight Test Center used the remaining time to fly their F-4s until the very end.

A large veil of secrecy lies above the Israeli Air Force (IAF – or Heyl Ha'Avir). The air arm is combat proven at an extremly high degree, but due to the sensitivity of their operations only very few information is being spread. Despite these conditions the visit to Nevatim and Hatzerim was very worthwhile.

On Wednesday, 16/09, Panavia , the managing organisation for the Tornado celebrated the 40th anniversary of the signing og MoU 2 (Memorandum of Understanding) with a small event at the Lagerlechfeld airbase.
Besides several speeches a small programm was flown by Tornados, involving aircraft fromall three partner nations Germany, Great Britain and Italy.
Furthermore a total of six aircraft received special decorated fins to celebrate the anniversary:

HAF jets at Araxos and Andravida

Greece currently scores big headlines due to the financial crises, but to find out its effects was not the purpose of this year's trip to the Peloponnese, visiting the F-16 Fighting Falcons and A-7 Corsairs at Araxos as well as Andravida's F-4E Phantoms. Nice spring weather and the Greek hospitality made the trip very worthwhile and resulted in some nice images.

ELITE 2008

ELITE (Electronic Warfare Live Training Exercise) went into its 14th year under this designation in 2008. After reaching its maximum of participating aircraft of different nations in 2007 the number of jets and helicopters was in a slight decrease this year. Nevertheless many interesting jets came to Lechfeld for 2 weeks to use it as a base for their daily attacks on the Heuberg range.

The EAA Airventure 2017 was announced to be the bomber year! And it really became bombastic. 590.000 people attended the event in Oshkosh, celebrating the 75th anniversary of the Doolittle Raid and also saw for the first time in more than 60 years two B-29 Superfortresses flying in formation. Apart from that once again more than 10.000 aircraft flew to Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, making it at that time the busiest airport in the world with approximately 123 aircraft movements per hour. For the pilots it was once again the great fly-in, and the highlight for the airshow this year were the US Navy Blue Angels.

Not that much of a well known destination for aircraft enthusiasts as many of the other fast jet bases around Japan Hamamatsu hosts the T-4 training wings as well as the Airborne Warning & Control squadron equipped with 4 Boeing E-767.

During the summer 2003 I have had the possibility to make a photo flight with the then only flying Jak-3 in Germany.
The Jak-3 with the registration D-FJAK is based in Freiburg, a city in the southwest of Germany and beautifully located between the banks of the river Rhein and the Black Forest.
