Piper Cub Fun Flying

On a very nice summer day in 2006 I had the opportunity to have a nice photoflight with the Piper Cub D-EJGI.
After a long day of work getting up in the air was a very nice way to end the day, therefore we met with Hans, who was going to be my pilot on this flight, not very long before sunset. After the preparation of both aircraft we made our briefing, talked about safety, formations, flying directions before taking off from Manching.

The ride at the end of the day was very smooth and my aim was to get some nice photos of the Cub with Mike and his daughter Jackie at the controls. Not the usual stress that one experiences when being at an air show for the whole day, but just the same very rewarding experience. At end of the flight some very pleasing results were achieved and we had our well earned cold beer after checking the aircraft.

1149212The history of the aircraft: S/N 13204 has originally been delivered to the USAAF in December 1944 and has been used during the last days of WW II in Europe within the 8th and 9th Air Force. In 1946 it came to Switzerland via Lichtenstein and was sold from there to Austria in 1957. In 1959 the 85hp Conti engine has been installed before the aircraft was sold to Germany in 1964. There it was based in München-Riem and after some ground time it come to Oberschleißheim from 1995 until 2000. Today, after more than 60 years of service, the Cub is still flying strong and is based at Tannheim.
