High Performance Glider – DG-800S
The DG Flugzeugbau DG-800S is a high performance single-seat glider with an impressive wingspan of 18m and a maximum glide ratio of 51,5 with winglets installed. As for comparable gliders it becomes obvious from a first sight that pure aerodynamics and esthetics are combined in these kind of aircraft. Time to go for a nice photo session with such an engineering piece of art!
Where? Eichstätt, Bavaria, Germany

DG-800 glider series
This DG-800S is the version of the DG-Flugzeugbau (http://www.dg-flugzeugbau.de/) DG-800 family aimed at competition flying. Compared to other variants it is unpowered, offers a shorter and lighter fuselage and impresses by its aerodynamic characteristics and an empty weight of only 272kg with the possibility to take more than 230 liters of water as additional ballast.
Glider flying in Eichstätt, Bavaria / Altmühltal
Shooting some air-air photos of a glider was a new ventures and high on my wish list for quite a while. Taking off from the scenic location of the Fliegerclub Eichstätt / EDPE in the heart of Bavaria and close to the Altmühltal Nature Park provided some nice scenery, though the weather restricted flying to the really nice spots that day.
Rather than concentrating on a picturesque view on the ground, one of the last warm and sunny autumn week-ends was used to circle around clouds in formation. Thanks to Andi and Sven for taking me up, this will be repeated for sure. Stay tuned!
